Urgently seeking new drivers

The Community Car Scheme, based in Great Massingham, covers a wide area, from roughly West Raynham, across to Docking and back down to Great Massingham. It provides volunteer drivers and their cars to take people to hospitals, doctors, shopping trips and to other venues to reduce social isolation. Passengers range in age, with the oldest being in the 90s.

Without the Scheme and with the limited public transport in the area, it’s hard to know how those without their own transport or who are too old to drive, would get to essential appointments. In 2010 the Scheme dealt with under 4000 trips – last year it was over 5600! We have a small office based at Great Massingham Village Hall, staffed Monday to Friday 09:00-12:00 by Lucy and Barbara, who take bookings and arrange drivers. You can, we hope, appreciate how vital this Scheme is not only to passengers but also to the local medical practices and businesses. And now the request: We are seeking to recruit some more drivers from across the whole area.

There’s no compulsion to accept a trip, but there is a great need to increase the number of drivers who can be called on. You’ll get to help many local people in doing this rewarding work, for which you’ll be thanked as well as reimbursed. Talk to us….find out more….we have committee members in Great Massingham, Harpley, East Rudham, and Docking and even Castle Acre who’ll be happy to talk to you.

The office number is 01485 520823 (09:00-12:00)and the email address is please email or call and leave your details and one of the committee members will get back to you.

Thank you.
